Frequently Asked Questions

At this point there are no machines in the marketplace that combine all three types of WBV technology. The mechanics involved wouild be extremely complicated thus not making it economically feasible.

These days there is a lot of media attention and scientific research aimed at the effects of vibration training on the human body. Our body was made for movement. We have been perfectly equipped to absorb all of the vibrations we are confronted with in our daily lives. However, the amount of mechanical vibrations we are exposed to has increased enormously over the last few centuries. Truck drivers, forklift drivers, construction workers and helicopter pilots absorb a lot of vibration on a daily basis. The complaints they suffer, mainly in joints and spine, cause tremendous problems. However, there are some fundamental differences between vibration exposures in the work place compared to vibration from the “WBV” Device. While training on the Device you are actively using the vibrations, which are being absorbed in the muscles instead of the joints. The duration is also much less. The total amount of time of a training session is not even close to the time that people are exposed to vibrations in a working environment. The “WBV” Device complies with the I.S.O. standards for industrial use, provided that training does not exceed 2 hours a day. For that matter, it is useless to train longer than 20 minutes or more often than 3 or 4 times a week. If you use the “WBV” Device according to our instructions and under certified supervision, vibration training is many times safer than any other sports or training activity.

As you can see on our instruction poster it is easier to perform some exercises with a step, as doing them without one requires a fair amount of muscle strength in the hamstrings. If you do these exercises without a step you will notice that your feet will shift/slide on the vibrating surface of the “WBV” Device. “WBV” Device does not provide the step.

Because the initial training phase on the “WBV” Device occurs on a neurological level (as it also does with conventional training), it is necessary for all persons training on the “WBV” Device to acclimate to this new form of training to benefit from the full effects of vibration. Dependent on the condition of the individual, the duration in the Adaptation Phase may last as long as four weeks or more, or as rapidly as less than two weeks. Recommended progression:

1    Extend the time of each exercise -
      30s to 45s, 45s to 50s
2    Reduce the rest period between exercises -
      60s to 45s, 45s to 30s, etc.
3    Increase number of sets per exercise
4    Perform exercise dynamically
5    Add additional exercises
6    Increase frequency -
      30Hz, 35Hz, 40Hz, 45 etc..
7    Incorporate unilateral movement
(i.e., perform exercises on one leg, etc.)
8    Increase Amplitude - Low to High

You can train the upper body while using the straps. For an effective work-out you will need to make sure that the straps are fully tightened at all times to enable a transfer of vibration to the upper body. Standing on the floor in front of the “WBV” Device while performing the exercises with the straps will allow you to experience more vibrations to the arms and upper body. For the extensors such as shoulders, chest and triceps you can also perform the exercises where direct contact with the plate is established.

You can integrate “WBV” Device training anywhere in your exercise schedule. Some people prefer to start with weight training, followed by cardio-vascular training and then on to the massage-exercises on the “ WBV” Device. However, you can adapt a schedule according to your own preference. There is no specific order that must be maintained in performing the different components of your training session.

The list of contra-indications is a list of all medical conditions that would be a reason to advise against using the “WBV” Device. This does not mean that if you are suffering from any of the conditions on the list, you could never user the “WBV” Device at all. In a number of cases it is highly recommended to integrate vibration training in a treatment plan. Of course, this would have to be under medical advice of a doctor, specialist or physiotherapist, and under strict supervision of an instructor. Because there are several studies being conducted at this time on the effects of vibration training on several physical problems, the list of contra-indications may be adjusted in the future. Some empirical studies have shown that there is an entire range of conditions where vibration training may play an important part, such as C.V.A. (cerebro-vascular accidents, also known as a stroke) and Parkinson's disease.

Both nationally and internationally, vibration training is becoming more widely known. The knowledge and know-how on the many applications of vibration training is growing rapidly, not only in the world of health and fitness clubs, but also in the area of medical and rehabilitative care. If your doctor, specialist or physiotherapist would like to know more about the “WBV” Device and its possible applications, have them visit our web site for more information.

Due to mechanical vibration produced by the “WBV” Device the body will react immediately. While standing on the “WBV” Device, the natural balance in the human body is disturbed. Many muscles will be activated in order to recover the balance lost. By changing the angles of the joints and the position on the “WBV” Device the muscles around the joint involved will stretch. This stretching is registered by the muscle spindles, which will send a signal through the afferent nerves to the cortex, which in turn will react with signals through the spinal cord and cause a reflex contraction of the muscles involved. The change of position is thus countered as soon as possible.
